Bill Daniel took a photo of me at Pflugerville that people seem to like so I drew it for this board. If it wasn’t for wanting to surf when I was a kid, I would have never skated. Moving away from the beach and not being able to surf everyday when I got to Austin to go to UT , skating became surfing to me. That’s when I met Chris, Nathan, Biscuit and Steve . A couple of years later , we would start the Big Boys to try and play Rauls once. We ended up playing a lot more than once and for me, I never stopped celebrating my self expression. I am honored and humbled to have been a part of this band and the response that it still seems to have on some is amazing to me . If it was not for skating, this band would have never existed .If it wasn’t for skating , I would not be on the path I am on . For all I have gotten to be a part of , see, hear , etc….. I hope I have not seen the best thing yet. One foot in front of the other with my 5 senses wide open. -Tim Kerr
It’s 1989 and it’s 92 degrees out and humid as EFFF in rural eastern NC. There are 5 of us hanging out at the makeshift mini ramp that we constructed in the woods after tearing down my buddies’ folks’ shed. We’re likely smoking cigarettes and our shins are bloody. On the deck, there’s a boom box playing a mix tape featuring Boogie Down Productions, Dag Nasty, Misfits, Public Enemy, Minor Threat, Minute Men, and… “HOLY S#$% WHO IS THIS?!!!”. “It’s the Big Boys, They’re from Texas, they skate, and they rule”! That’s how I was introduced to The Big Boys. If I remember correctly the first song I heard was “Killing Time”. These guys brought the punk, the funk, the politics, and the party, all on the same records. I was an instant fan.
Around a year ago, we started talking to Tim about a doing a Big Boys skate deck. We’ve done several shirts with the band featuring work from a few different artists. For the skate deck, Tim wanted to do the art. and as you can see, he nailed it! We had them all shipped directly to Tim who was kind enough to sign and number them. We hope you dig! -Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media
