AmRep’s 40th Anniversary and all yer getting are these lousy t-shirts!! Being the unfocused spastic I am, I’ve never been completely devoted to one creative ”discipline” and have spent my life bouncing around like a superball chucked at max velocity down a tight corridor. Jack of all trades as it were. I’ve admired friends that have devoted a lifetime to a particular medium, and envy the skills that they’ve acquired as a result, but hey that ain’t me! In direct contradiction to that sentiment at 60 I’m noticing a pattern in that I keep coming back to, maintaining, and building on certain themes repeatedly over these decades. What’s this long winded belly button pondering bullshit about? Hopefully this is an insight as to why I riddle my timeline with blatant crass commercialism. My “art” is in collaborating with folks to make “cool stuff” and sell it. Always has been I guess. Not an apology, more an explanation. What set this off? Trying to go back to an earlier aesthetic I was pursuing about 35 or so years ago in doing some new design work for these AmRep shirts and as a result realizing this year is the 40th anniversary of all things AmRep.
