In the world of comics, there’s not much Martin Dunn hasn’t done. His art and writing have been a huge part of everything from mega-enormous books like Transformers, GI Joe, ROM, M.A.S.K., Action Man, etc to smaller, self published series released through multiple independent publishers, including his own PunkHouse Press imprint. When we noticed that Martin was ordering our shirts, we had to reach out and inquire if he would like to work with us. He was!

It really all started when I saw the Descendents “Xmen” shirt. I started ordering stuff from Bifocal, and through a funny snafu with shipping, I started talking to Charles. We got to talking about comics, music, etc. I think one of the coolest things in all of this was getting to connect with Brian Walsby. So, Charles and me had been discussing me doing a shirt for a while, and nothing seemed to line up. Then, while I was at Megacon in Orlando, I got a text asking me if I wanted to do a Fu Manchu shirt. I immediately said yes. Growing up in Florida in the late 80’s and having my teenage days lived out in the 90’s means that I was exposed to 3 major forms of the punk genre. Radio pop-punk, Hardcore, and then of course Skate/Surf punk. I first heard Fu Manchu back in 1996 when my cousin left his “The Action is Go” tape at my house. I listened to it for a good week before he took it back, and I had to hunt my own copy down. To this day, the title track for that record is one of my favorite punk songs. The design of the shirt came about from my own background in comics and wanting to do something fun with a classic horror comic feel. The image is an homage to an old Jack Sparling cover. So, it was a lot of fun to work on. -Martin Dunn
