Mike Watt

Yesterday a friend and I drove a car load of skateboards from Asheville to Charlotte to meet up with Mike Watt. Tim Kerr and Mike and I worked together to come up with a deck design that suited everyone and our buddy Paul Schmitt’s company (PSSTIX) manufactured 110 of these for us.

Watt agreed to sign and number all the boards so here we were; Unboxing skateboards, spreading them out on the ground outside of the venue, signing and numbering, and talking… LOTS OF TALKING. I talked about how Firehose was one of the first bands I had seen in a club as a teenager. Mike remembered the exact show in question.  We talked about how great Tim Kerr’s board design was and how much we loved his band Big Boys. Mike informed us that it was D Boone’s birthday (RIP) and how it had been 55 years since they became friends. He also let us know the exact number of times he’d been on tour… (OVER 70) playing in various bands (Minutemen, Firehose, Stooges, Porno For Pyros, Missingmen, Secondmen, Flipper, MSSV, Etc). We loaded the boards back into my car, watched the show (MSSV), and headed home with our heads spinning from the day’s experience.

So… here you have it. A skateboard featuring the face and artwork of two American treasures who are respected and loved world wide. Mike and Tim have had an enormously positive impact on my life through their music, art, and generosity. We hope you dig this board. -Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media
