1984, according to the Chinese calendar was the year of the rat so appropriately there needed to be one on the cover of Your Flesh. I mean, WTFN? After all, forty years ago punk rock’s bête noire Ronnie Reagan was in office and running for his 2nd term and it was approximately at this time too that American hardcore’s first wave had begun to quickly lose steam, ushering in a stale parade of generic copyists, reducing the form into a parody of itself…

Zine co-founder Ron Clark rendered the cover art for this the sixth edition of Your Flesh and it remains my favorite among the first ten issues, which is no small accolade if you consider covers by Pushead and Marc Rude had preceded it, but there you have it.

I’ve long since wanted to have a shirt created that features Ron’s cover and ironically several people recently suggested they’d love to have one if I did, so now at long last it is so. -Peter Davis/ Your Flesh Magazine
