The year is 1984 in Austin Texas. Tim Kerr and Chris Gates, then the stringed instruments players of the Big Boys came back from a grueling tour and decided to take a break from the band. That break turned into a permanent hiatus and the two of them started a new project with a few friends of theirs, including Big Boys roadie, the late Mike Carroll, on lead vocals. Poison 13 were born. They were a swampy/ crazy band that played mostly a mix of cool covers. Tim Kerr played some great slide guitar all over the place and Mike had a excellent snarling voice. The band had some sort of spooky/ sometimes bluesy garage punk vibe that was totally captured on their excellent debut album (produced by Spot). I think of things like the Gun Club and their “Fire Of Love” album when I hear these songs. That’s a good thing in my book… Same spooky bluesy vibe.

Poison 13 put out a second twelve inch e.p. and then? I dont know. I guess everyone moved on. Mike and Tim ended up on a new band, the excellent Lord High Fixers. I really dug Poison 13 and want to thank Tim for the green light to make a few of these shirts. I hope you all dig this spooky Poison 13 t shirt. Lastly, this shirt goes out to the memory of Mike, who is featured front and center on this design. Cheers! -Brian Walsby
