Negro Terror

Negro Terror have one of those band names that is so punk rock that when emblazoned across the front of a T-shirt or album cover you are immediately struck with images of button-down parental-types and church mothers weeping while threatening to burn their teenager’s record collection. Thankfully the band’s genius goes far beyond the name and their entire existence has been an urgent punch to a society built on a history of racial inequality. To that end, when I first encountered Negro Terror in 2017, via their audacious appropriation of songs penned by infamous white power punk bands, I immediately began production on a documentary that took a tragic twist when the band’s singer and bassist Omar Higgins unexpectedly passed away. I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with the men in this band and to honor Omar once again with a shirt just as urgent and poignant in the national discussion of racial justice as Negro Terror and their music. My portion of the royalties from shirt sales are being donated to Carpenter Art Garden: an organization dedicated to working with the children of Binghampton to promote each one’s creativity and self-worth through exposure to artistic, educational, and vocational programs.   -John Rash
