Seminal is a word that gets thrown around a bit too freely these days. However, I think it is a perfect way to describe LA’s very own GERMS. Formed in 77, they were one of the first American bands to fully push the idea of punk on an unsuspecting Southern California crowd. They put out their first single on super low budget What Records in 77 as well, and it could not have been more DIY. One side recorded on a 2 track and the from a live set. It was a beautiful mess, and it clearly stirred the imagination of thousands of Southern California need-do-weels into forming bands of their own.
It is a true honor to have worked with Don Bolles on this shirt, and to have received his seal of approval. It was very important to me that the shirt was printed using the blue circle on the sleeve, and as far as I know, it’s the first official GERMS shirt to have done so. Darby and Lorna, I hope you’re proud of this one! -Chris Shary
