The term “New York Hardcore” is not really something I have spent a lot of time thinking about, but I will say that the one band associated with that term that caught my ear as a youngster was the band Urban Waste. Their shrill and trebley sounding tornado of a hardcore punk (self titled) seven inch was packed full of songs and I listened to it all of the time. I’d say it ranks up there with your Neos/ Deep Wound/ Negative Approach releases of the day. Yes, It’s THAT GOOD! I actually listened to it again recently, and you know what? It still rips.
The band still exists these days with a different lineup (hey it’s been forty years, get real) that boasts original guitarist Johnny Waste and some other heavy hitters. They still out records that sound good to my ancient ears. In short, Urban Waste is a ripping band and I would like to thank their singer Josh and Charles (From Bifocal) for making this happen.
