In the late 90s/ early 2000s Bifocal Media did plenty of video work in the underground rock scene. Our buddy Andy Rich owned Initial Records (Louisville, KY) and every year they put on a big event called Krazy Fest. Andy would hire us to film the event and The Locust played at least two of them.

Some of the acts playing the fest were popular hardcore bands and there was a lot of “support the scene/ unity/ mosh” type stuff happening. All of that is killer, but my tastes at the time leaned more in the damaged art, spazzed out side of punk rock.

At one point (between songs) one of the singers from one of the big hardcore bands was talking about what hardcore meant to him as members of The Locust watched from the crowd. “It’s not about partying and how good your hair looks” he yelled as he paced around in front of the crowd 2000 or so excited fest goers. At this point The Locust’s drummer Gabe Serbian (RIP) yelled “THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH GOOD HAIR!”.

There was a huge roar of laughter (from the crowd and the dude talking on stage). I was already a fan of The Locust’s aesthetic and their sound, but this moment made me want to be personally “down” with the band. It wasn’t until years later that we actually started working with them on these little merch collaborations.

I’m proud to be affiliated with The Locust and Tom Hazelmyer… He’s the guy who did the art for this super limited hat. Dig It! -Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media
