For what it’s worth: I’ve been obsessed with music for as long as I’m been alive. It’s hard me to take anything about a song lightly. Most of my core memories involve a relative song or soundtrack. At the age of 3, I would press my ear to the clock radio when a song I loved came on and pitch a crying fit at it’s conclusion. My entire career and most of my social life has been tied to music. I’m not a casual listener and NOMEANSNO are one of my favorite bands.

My introduction to these Canadians came when my friend (Evil) Jay made me a high school mix tape including the songs “Rich Guns” and “Dead Souls”. I went on to purchase both the “MAMA” and “The Day Everything Became Nothing” albums. For a while, this was the extent of my NOMEANSNO collection. THEN…

In 1999 I was on tour with Jay’s band The Ladderback. We’d made our way from Raleigh, NC to Denver, CO at this point. After the show we ended up in a tiny beat up car with one of that night’s show’s attendees and they put in the “WRONG” cassette. The ride that followed is forever etched into my memory. I think we made it through 4 or 5 songs by the time we reached our destination; at which point I was convinced that this was one of the greatest bands to ever play rock music.

For this design, I took the band’s iconic logotype (designed by drummer John Wright) and did some compositional acrobatics. John suggested we add the “What Part Of…” text and I agreed with him. Once I got it to the point where it was feeling balanced…I thought it looked too “neat” so I printed it out, balled it up, scanned it back in and now it’s going to be on a shirt that folks may (or may not) want to wear.

To say that I’m proud to be working with NOMEANSNO is an understatement. I hope you enjoy this design. –Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media
