RKL (Rich Kids On LSD)

Originally from Santa Barbara (before relocating to San Francisco), RKL i.e. “Rich Kids On LSD” were probably the best band with “Nardcore” origins. Once they relocated up north, they put out a widely acclaimed and now classic album: “Rock And Roll Nightmare” on Alchemy Records. They became a quintet, toured Europe a bunch, and pretty much fell apart at the end of the decade/start of the next decade, only to reform later.

RKL originally boasted drummer/songwriter Bomber, who was a talented musician, playing bass AND drums on “Rock And Roll Nightmare”. Jason Sears was the singer. As you probably know if you are a fan, both of them died a long time ago. They’ve since achieved infamy; not only in being some of the best players around (playing this nimble, almost prog rock arrangements in fast hardcore) but also in their losses as wild youth with a bit of bad luck.

In the last few years, most of the classic lineup has reformed with Dead Pioneers member Abe Brennan as the bands current frontman. People are stoked and shows are happening. Original guitarist Chris Rest gave me the green light on this, so thanks Chris and thanks to the rest of the band and to Charles of course. It’s nice to see RKL out there playing in this current day and age. Because of that, you should really buy this timely t-shirt. -Brian Walsby
