Product Description
My first exposure to “Punk” or whatever came in the 80s when I befriended a new kid who moved in down the street from our (very) rural NC home. Punk Rock was a complete package for weird, out of place kids. It came with it’s own music, fashion, politics, sports (Skateboarding), and identity.
It wasn’t until I went to college in the early ‘90s that I realized that there was an entire network revolving around underground music that an individual could operate within. Hardcore had it’s own media with tons of ‘zines, records, videos, and public radio stations. There was an entire entertainment “industry” comprised of independent record labels, bands, distributors, record stores, promoters, and fans. Bands booked 2 month long tours, playing in living rooms, basements, VFW halls, and tiny venues.
Clikatat Ikatowi was one of the more popular bands to come out of this era. Their unhinged brand of damaged art punk inspired a ton of bands and their records hold up really well after all these years.
Recently the Numero Group re-released Clikatat’s 2 LPs along with their first demo recording. The band is playing shows again and when this flier popped up in my Facespace feed, I immediately reached out to Mario about putting it on a shirt. He said OK, so here you have it! Special thanks go out to Ake Arndt for letting us use his flier and Jeff Winterberg for taking this classic photo of the band. -Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media
