JFA

When I was a little kid, I came across this seven inch record by a band called Jody Fosters Army. The record was called “Blatant Localism” and it was great.

Was the band’s name shocking (The dude who shot Raegan did it to “impress Jody Foster”)?  It was if you were radio deejay personality Dr. Demento, who played the shortest song on here (less than ten seconds!) and then apologized to the listening audience for the name.

Next came the album “Valley Of The Yakes”, a cool mix of thrash punk tunes and surfy numbers. This one featured some nimble playing from original bassist Mike Cornelius and guitarist Don Pendleton. Also featured was some snazzy drumming by their late drummer Mike “Bam Bam” Svervold and the out of tune sort of but utterly charming vocals of Brian Brannon.

This was the original lineup of the band, which lasted until….late 83? Early 84? I sort of lost track afterwards, but I loved that early JFA stuff! I also noticed that some various nice folks I knew got to take a crack at doing something with JFA through Bifocal Media. So maybe I could do the same thing? Finally, years later, I did.
