Cave In

In 1997 I purchased The Cave In/ Piebald 7” at my local record store in Greenville, NC. The featured Cave In song “Programmed Behind” blew my mind. It was brutal, melodic, and powerful. I was an immediate fan of the band. Around this time, I was booking shows at the local skatepark (Backdoor) and I got a call from a band member asking if I would be interested in setting up a show for Cave In and Piebald as the bands were touring together. I filmed the show and footage ended up in the first Bifocal Media release. We kept in touch with Stephen Brodsky for a few years and I’ve continued to follow Cave In as they’ve progressed and continued to release great records. I’m extra excited to be working with these guys again (over 20 years later) and I’m extra pleased that Brian, Kristin, and the band have included a tribute to beloved Cave In bassist Caleb Scofield who passed away in a car crash in 2018. -Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media

This Cave In shirt happened for a few reasons. The first reason was slowly getting friendly with Nate Newton through social media stuff, which led me to asking him since I had never met the other guys. The second reason was because their new album is excitingly good and covers a lot of ground. I discovered Cave In when thier Jupiter album came out. I liked it and saw them at the Duke Coffeehouse in Durham. I was aware of the “scene schism” they caused because Jupiter wasn’t fast brutal hardcore and half of the audience stood around acting confused. They were good. Plus, it was Cave In who turned me on to Failure. Me and my wife Kristin both like Cave In a lot. So it was a no brainer. Personally, I think this is one of the best things either of us have done.
