Randy Turner & Gary Floyd

A long long time ago (the late seventies going into the early eighties to be precise), when Austin Texas was still really weird, there were two friends who helped make a lot of stuff happen. Gary Floyd and Randy Turner were really F#$king great singers in early eighties bands: The Dicks and the Big Boys. They even shared a split album (a la the Faith/Void album) except it was a year earlier.

Both guys liked to dress up onstage and make a spectacle of themselves in the funnest and greatest way possible. They were both openly gay which was probably not the easiest thing to be in Texas during that time period. I’m sure they inspired and helped many people just by their attitude alone. They pushed the buttons that they were meant to push and embraced and supported the people that they were meant to support.

This is my little tribute to the both of them. I knew neither man, but I sure did admire them and I still love their music.
