I was introduced to Mike Watt though Firehose. That clip of Natas Kaupas skating to Brave Captain from the Streets of Fire video was pure inspiration to me and let me know that punk rock didn’t have to bash you over the head to be effective. Punk rock could have some soul to it and even some jazz. I soon dove face first into the Minutemen and sopped up every bit of that Watt bass sound that I could get. I learned to jam econo and Double Nickles on the Dime continues to be one of my favorite albums of all time. While working next to Kings Barcade in Raleigh years and years ago, I met Mike Watt when the band pulled in for a show and was amazed that the guys still drove a van from show to show all over the country. I wanted to honor not only Mike Watt but “The Boat” as well. Every brave captain deserves a righteous ship to traverse this nations rivers of highways. From the docks of San Pedro to the rock and roll club in your town “The Boat” sails on. -Jer Warren hat the guys still drove a van from show to show all over the country.
