Product Description
I met “Evil” Jay at the mall in 1990 as I handed out chicken samples in front of the fast-food restaurant I worked at. That year we ended up at the same high school in a tiny eastern NC town. There weren’t too many kids into weird rock in town and we quickly bonded over the normal punk rock dorkdom (music, art, politics).
Jay was already a great illustrator and his dad owned a copy machine. He did a ‘zine called “The Buzz” and started a great band called “Grumblebunny”. We remained friends and in the late 1990s Bifocal started putting out records for Jay’s band The Ladderback. By 2001 I had moved in with Jay in Raleigh, NC. It seemed logical that Jay join Brad and I at Bifocal, so he became part owner.
In 2002 The Ladderback did an insane tour of Japan and by the time we had returned home, Jay was already certain that he would marry a woman he’d met there and move to Tokyo. And that’s exactly what he did!
Jay’s still in Japan and I’m more than happy to be working with him again on various Bifocal Media projects… like this one! It’s a robot made up of AV equipment. I tried to pull this idea off myself, but after months of trashing designs, I knew a skilled illustrative hand was needed. I think Evil Jay nailed it. Evil Jay always “nails it”. We hope you like our new shirt! Thanks, Sorry, Bye! -Charles Cardello/ Bifocal Media.
