The year is 1983. The Boston band Jerry’s Kids releases their debut album IS THIS MY WORLD? , released on the mysterious label X Claim records, which also released albums by the likes of SSD and the F.U.’s.

This record was offing insane!  Very few records capture that “out of control teenagers with instruments going nuts” vibe of early eighties hardcore punk like IS THIS MY WORLD?  Even on the pictures on the back of the record, the band members suggest you will be in store for a bonkers recording. It’s truth in advertising personified when “I Don’t Belong” starts…with an AC/DC ending! Those pics…Bob Cenci on his knees a la Angus Young, bassist singer Rick Jones jumping around with those cut off shorts down to his knees (a brave fashion choice of the day that I grabbed on to). It sounds stupid to say this, but no one wore shorts to their knees at the time. Gang Green guitarist Chris Doherty is seen crowd surfing. And tornado multi armed octopus drummer Brian Betzger looks calm and collected, despite the maelstrom of a drumming performance all over the record.

The other earlier and later recordings and lineups are all good too, and they are hidden in this design I came up. I hope it captures what I felt when I discovered this amazing album. And yes, I still am not above playing this recording once in awhile. It holds up rather well, like all good crazy out of control rock music does. And I would like to thank Rockin Bob and Rick for okaying this. I hope people like the design. And thanks again for introducing wearing shorts down to your knees, Jerry’s Kids. I have carried that tradition for several decades as well! -Brian Walsby
