I first met Makiko Suda ages ago ages ago in the Yokohama hardcore scene …probably at a show at the long standing DIY space called El Puente. We both bonded over a shared obsession with art and music. It wasn’t until a few months later that I ran into her again at a live event where she was on the stage fronting her incredible grindcore band known as Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation (hereby known as FID).

They put on a ferocious performance and plowed through their set with a purpose and a raging conviction. They were awesome! I managed to see them live a few more times before Makiko and her husband Justin relocated to the US; but we have always kept in touch and have always respected each others artistic endeavors over the years.

I had been toiling in my head what kind of sick art would match Makiko’s love for obscure art and film and I discovered this piece which I had begun but had never completed. Sure, the heart of the artwork may seem disturbing, but it totally matched with the wicked sounds of FID and she was completely stoked to have this on a shirt through Bifocal Media repping her band.

By the way, rumors are swirling that the band may be joining up for a few select live dates very soon. Let’s hope so. You should also check out Makliko Suda’s hand drawn artwork on all social media sites. It’s really something special. But for now…. VIVA  Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation!!
