Reika Neko and I go back from a few years ago. At the time, I was doing a podcast (this was around 2013 or so) called Mystery Cuts Radio; in which i showcased a number of old Showa-era singles from Japan’s psyche rock, beat girl pop, and 80s punk heyday. One of my favorite jams to play on the show was The Nurse II ep…with it’s mysterious cryptic cover photograph and blazing female fronted punk attitude. One of my personal best cuts from the 7″ was called Red The Moon; with it’s angular guitar riff and some what haunting vocal which led into this triumphant anthem of a chorus…arrrgghhhh…so great! I had actually contacted Reika about being a guest on the podcast to talk about Japan’s early 80’s punk scene…but that never actually materialized and a few years later, the toll of doing a podcast got to much to bear and I called it quits after 30 episodes.

However, a few years later I started writing music again and I had an idea to do a Japanese version of my band’s song “Midnight On The Mountain.” Reika was so gracious to step into the studio with me and lay down some absolutely killer vocals on the track (not to mention the extremely incredible job of translating my lyrics)…it was a real hit! And now….after trying to come. up with a killer idea for a shirt for The Nurse, here we finally have it: Red The Moon!! I’m super excited and I just know there are many fans over the world of The Nurse and Reika Neko’s other mind-meltingly great band D.O.T. (Deserts Of Tomorrow) that all of you should check out as well.Thank you, Reika!!! -Evil Jay, Tokyo
